My approach to care
I strive to take a holistic approach to care, recognizing that mental wellness involves mind, body, spirit, and community. My approach combines rigorous training as a psychologist/scholar along with 10+ years of practical experience in integrated behavioral health care. I think evidence-based treatment is important and like anything else, has its limitations. For this reason, my approach aims to balance our head, through the use of solution focused, evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, and our heart, by focusing on mindfulness, self-compassion, and self-care.
Step-by-Step
Our work would begin with a thorough assessment of your needs and your reasons for seeking therapy. This may involve a simple conversation or evens some helpful assessments (don’t worry they’re not hard!) to understand your symptoms. Next, we would discuss your best hopes for treatment and goals that would make you feel that therapy is working. Together we would then come up with a treatment plan and a timeline that works for you. I really enjoy my clients and I always let them know that my hope is to work myself out of job! When we feel that we have reached your desired outcome for therapy, we would bring our time together to a close by creating an aftercare plan that helps you continue to apply what you have gained in therapy.
My best hopes for our work…
My best hope for my clients after our work together is that they become empowered in their lives to continue to make changes they desire. I am to help clients create sustainable ways to care for their mental health with an understanding that therapy will aways be a self-care practice that they can come back to if they need it.
